It features the following:

• New HUD (Heads Up Display)

Because it’s such a feature-full update I will break down each thing on the list above.

New HUD (Heads Up Display) 1/10
This is the centre point of the update. The entire on-screen display has changed. I’m sure the developers would describe it as a “much needed facelift” however a good 95% of the Combat Arms International Community are saying otherwise.

Good Points:

• The in-game chat is smaller and bolder, much clearer to read
• The sprint, HP, and backpack displays (the entire bottom of the display) looks nice.

Bad Points:

• The font is too plain, it looses the military theme.
• There is a large, 90% Opacity grey bar that intrudes the middle of your screen displaying the map and mode you are playing when you first enter a room. This is terribly annoying and ugly.
• The radar, whilst perhaps useful in S&D games, is too big.
• The scoreboard is ugly and it is harder to tell who is on which team.
• The map loading screens are awful, ugly and completely unnecessarily changed.
• The respawn bar is awfully gradiented and ugly.
• The Alpha/Bravo coloured bars at the top are the wrong shades of colour, and looses the military theme
• The accolades are boring. They are all the same colour and size, which makes accolade excitement a thing of the past.
• The mini-accolades near the kill info, their text doesn’t line up with the background, making it look messy.

The dreaded “Grey Bar of Doom”

As you can see, the bad outweighs the good here. We want the accolades back, support the campaign here. Also change your room names to: ACCOLADES FAIL!! To sum it all up, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. There was nothing  wrong with the old UI, time could be better spent fixing bugs!

FS2000 Assault Rifle (GP) 8/10
This weapon is pretty good. It’s nothing special – but I personally really like it. Although it is classed as an Assault Rifle, it has a LOT of spread when firing. But it fires really fast, it’s a great weapon for Close Quaters Combat. However, the description states you can add a grenade launcher to it – this is not true!

F2000 Assault Rifle (MYST-N Case) 8/10
Very similar to the FS2000, it offers slightly improved stats and it now comes in ONE great colour: Black. It also ahs it’s own custom scope similar to the G36. I can’t comment anymore about this as I have not tried it.

Tracker Knife (NX Cash) 7/10
I can’t comment on this as I haven’t tried it, but it doesn’t look that special to me.

Dredge Map 9/10
This map is really nice. I love it. It has alot of pathways and interactive places. For example, you can shoot both “walls” down near the top pathway. And you can control the gates in both Alpha and Bravo bases, locking  in anyone in the middle of the map.  The map might look a bit plain, but it is very well balanced for both snipers and rushers. Probably one of the only few additions welcomed in this patch.

In-Game Recorder & YouTube Uploader Functions 8/10
Mixed opinions all round here. For me, it lags a bit less. It only goes up to 720p as opposed to a FRAPS max resolution of 1080p, and you are limited to a short title and description when uploading, it’s great for quick video uploads to report hackers, share something funny etc etc.

The in-game upload feature works well

Overall, I give this patch a 4/10.

It has great content additions, but is weighed down by the new HUD. Combat Arms is a Military Style fast paced shooter <- that’s taken from the official description of the game. It’s not Crysis, it’s not SuperSpaceMissions, it’s not Battlefield 2142. It’s military themed…. except it isn’t, really. Not any more. The theme music was changed. The UI was changed, and now the HUD has changed too. It’s lost almost all of its original military theme.

General Intel:

For this map, silencers are a must. Enemies are generally hard to see through the thick vegetation, but a muzzle flash will give away a position instantly. This map plunges players into unseen levels of darkness.

Operation Briefing:

It has become increasingly difficult to penetrate the city, so enemies have gotten more creative. Satellites reveal that the terrorists have installed a Missile Launcher in the forest surrounding the city. To make matters worse, the terrorists have taken control of all the trails into the forest, making it difficult to enter. The forest is so thick, it is nearly impossible to tell our own allies apart, let alone locate the enemy.

Our Opinion:

This map turns the lights out. Seriously. As we said earlier, unless you want to be a bullet magnate you must use a silencer that reduces muzzle flash. If you wear the right type of camo in this map, be sure to crouch down in the thick vegetation and then spring up to surprise your enemies. You need to be prepared for this map, or you won’t have a clue where to go. This map needs cunning, and stealth.

Basic Intel:

When playing any game of Combat Arms, a message may appear on the right hand of your screen. This is a mini mission, it will give you a target to complete in the game, for example, the “M4A1 Specialist” mini-mission will ask you to kill 17 people with your M4A1. After you complete the mission, you will be rewarded with extra GP & EXP at the end of your game. There are many different mini-missions available with varying rewards.

Our Opinion:

This is a cool addition to the game if you’re looking to set yourself a target or if you want some more EXP & GP. There’s definitely no reason to saw why this is a bad idea, although we think the rewards should be higher, as most rewards only give around 20-30 extra GP & EXP, we feel this should be around 50-100 extra GP & EXP.
